Datamars Textile ID launches the Gamma Resistant LaundryChip™

A new UHF RFID tag designed to remain fully operational after over 100 gamma sterilization cycles.

Lamone, Switzerland – [March 2nd, 2026].

Datamars Textile ID has introduced the Gamma Resistant LaundryChip™ FT501-GAM, a new UHF RFID tag developed to support textile traceability in healthcare and industrial environments where sterilization processes include gamma irradiation. The new addition expands the LaundryChip™ portfolio by addressing a specific operational need: maintaining reliable RFID performance in workflows where exposure to gamma radiation typically renders conventional tags unusable.

Healthcare and industrial organizations managing reusable textiles such as linen, towels, gowns and scrubs rely on sterilization processes to meet strict hygiene and compliance requirements. While autoclave sterilization remains widely used, gamma irradiation is an essential method in a range of applications requiring deep sterilization. In these conditions, standard electronic components can degrade or fail, creating gaps in visibility during critical stages of the textile lifecycle. The FT501-GAM has been developed to overcome this limitation, using specialized technology designed to withstand repeated gamma sterilization cycles while preserving consistent reading performance.

The new tag builds on the proven mechanical design of the Datamars LaundryChip™ platform, ensuring durability in demanding industrial laundry environments while maintaining the UHF performance expected by existing users. Supporting more than 100 gamma sterilization cycles, the FT501-GAM integrates seamlessly with established RFID infrastructures, allowing healthcare providers, textile service operators and technology partners to extend traceability into sterilization workflows without changing their current systems or processes.

Maintaining reliable identification throughout sterile workflows helps organizations improve control over textile assets, reduce losses and support operational documentation. By enabling RFID functionality during gamma sterilization, the FT501-GAM closes a long-standing gap in textile tracking and provides a practical solution for environments where continuous visibility has traditionally been difficult to achieve.

The launch of the Gamma Resistant LaundryChip™ FT501-GAM reflects Datamars Textile ID’s ongoing commitment to developing RFID solutions that respond to real operational challenges in healthcare and industrial laundry applications.
